Maui has great camping all around the island from the west Maui beaches to the jungles of Hana to the top of a volcano (Haleakalā). One thing to note is that the County of Maui and State of Hawaii campgrounds require permits to camp at. You must obtain a permit prior to showing up to camp as there are no onsite ways to get a permit. Maui is a very popular place to campervan so be sure to book your campsites early as they tend to fill up fast. Some of the campgrounds do not allow you to sleep in your vehicle so if you choose to camp at one of them, please request a tent. Free camping or "boondocking" is illegal and frowned upon by the local community and is not allowed.
