Maui Campsites

Maui has great camping all around the island, from the west Maui beaches to the jungles of Hana to the top of a volcano (Haleakalā). One thing to note is that the County of Maui and State of Hawaii campgrounds require permits to camp. You must obtain a permit prior to showing up to camp as there are no onsite ways to get a permit. Maui is a very popular place to campervan, so be sure to book your campsites early as they tend to fill up fast. Some of the campgrounds do not allow you to sleep in your Maui camper rental so if you choose to camp at one of them, please add a tent during checkout. Free camping or "boondocking" is illegal and frowned upon by the local community, and is not allowed in our vans.

Camping information is subject to change without notice. Please contact the applicable local office for current information.

Where to Camp at Maui

Living in a campervan rental is the way to explore the best of what Maui has to offer. Discover the beauty of vanlife as you visit Camp Olowalu to experience the breathtaking views of the West Maui mountains, then go kayaking, paddle boarding, and whale watching in the winter months. For bird lovers, Hosmer Grove offers a spectacular view of Hawaii’s thriving wildlife. If you’re lucky, you can even experience a rare sighting of the Iwi’iwi, a bird native to Hawaii. Hiking enthusiasts can enjoy trekking toward the Haleakalā crater floor via the Palikū and Hōlua wilderness campsites, then traverse through Kipahulu’s series of waterfalls and bamboo forest.

Papalaua Wayside Park is another great pit stop when traveling in your Maui camper van rental. Known for its kiawe trees, this hidden beach is great for surfing, snorkeling, and kayaking adventures. Wai'anapanapa State Park is another unspoiled gem with its volcanic terrain and black sand beach. With so many campgrounds to visit in your RV rental, you’ll never run out of things to do while traveling in an RV on Maui.
