The Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens are situated against the majestic Ko’olau Range and offer the only city campsites that are not on the beach. Set in a picturesque rainforest, the Kahua Kuou campgrounds offer distinctive camping among plants Native to Hawaii as well as India and Sri Lanka. There are two that we recommend, the Kahua Lehua Campsite and the Kahua Kuou Campsite.  These are tent only sites and are located deep in the jungle so it is usually more humid and less wind than the beach sites and there is quite a bit more mosquitoes.  We camp here a lot and the mosquitoes are not too bad but you have to wear bug repellent if you are prone to getting bit.
